3sum members both robbed in 2 weeks

Koyo Bala and Amstel Maboa of afro-pop trio 3sum have been left incredulous after both falling victim to robberies within a matter of days.

Maboa was the first to endure the unfortunate experience of being burgled about a week ago, when robbers broke into his Hyundai sedan in Yeoville, Johannesburg, after which Bala suffered the same fate, in the same area.

Lamenting the fact he was robbed of various valuable items, including his passport and driver’s licence, Bala told the Sowetan: “They also unscrewed the car speakers which lets me know they had time.”

“I lost some shoes and stage attire, because we change in our cars for performances,” he added.

“I don’t know how anyone can throw a big stone into a car window and no one hears anything. I reported the crime at the Yeoville police station. The police dusted the car for fingerprints. The stolen items are worth about R8 000, excluding the licence and passport.”

Originally a trio comprised of Bala, Maboa, and Jeff Moyo, the all-gay group became a duo when the latter passed away in 2010.
