Susi (62), who voiced Mrs Wolowitz, the mother of Simon Helberg’s character Howard Wolowitz, died on Tuesday following a brief battle with an aggressive form of cancer, according to media reports.

Warner Bros and producers said in a statement that in addition to her talent, Susi had been a constant source of joy and kindness to all involved in the Emmy award-winning show.

“Unseen by viewers, the Mrs Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show’s eight seasons,” the statement reads.

“What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann’s immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance.”

Susi kicked her career off as an actress during the 1970s when she played Kolchak’s secretary in the series Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

She also appeared in Cheers, Doogie Howser, Seinfeld and Six Feet Under.
