Papa Penny mourns death of son

Nicolas reportedly committed suicide on Thursday.

Tsonga musician and reality TV star Papa Penny, real name Eric Nkovani, has announced the death of his stepson, Nicolas, Mama Nomi’s 23-year-old firstborn child. Nicolas died on Thursday after reportedly committing suicide at Soshanguve train station in Pretoria.

Nicolas reportedly left his grandparents’ house at around 3pm on Thursday after telling them he would come back later. His grandparents panicked and called Penny Penny when his son had not returned home at around 10pm. The family tried contacting Nicolas, to no avail.

Papa Penny told The Sowetan: “Around 11pm, the grandfather was looking through his room and found a letter with the message that ‘I’m going to kill myself at Soshanguve train station’. That’s when the grandparents called the police and they were told that it [suicide] happened around 4pm.”

Taking to social media, Papa Penny wrote: “Nicolas RIP we will always remember you from our reality show session 1 and session 2 as family we are so disappointed because we where still waiting to see your progress as man who can look after us even your sister and nomi and Penny Penny jr to be [their] big brother god bless your road famba kahle [sic].”

Condolences have been pouring in for the Nkovani family.
