Assault charges against Babes Wodumo withdrawn

A mediation process between the three accused and the complainant led to an amicable solution and settlement being reached.

Keeping in the mood of her generally jubilant spirit throughout her court case, gqom music sensation Babes Wodumo was seen celebrating outside the Durban Magistrate’s Court after finding out that the charges of common assault laid against her were withdrawn.

According to EWN, she was celebrating alongside her sister and manager Nondumiso Simelane as well as fellow artist Thobeka ‘Tipcee’ Ndaba, who were charged with her.

The complainant has since been identified as a Durban businesswoman named Nelisiwe Zondi who filed the charges against Babes (real name Bongekile Simelane) after an incident which allegedly took place at a KwaZulu Natal guest house in March.

KwaZulu-Natal National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Natasha Kara said the withdrawal of the charges follows a mediation process between the three accused and the complainant, whereby an amicable solution was reached to have the matter settled out of court.
