Rumours of John Singleton’s death rock the internet

Various sources close to Singleton have slammed reports that he died on Monday morning.

Critically acclaimed director John Singleton is the latest celebrity to be prematurely killed by internet rumours, a week after he suffered a stroke and slipped into a coma.

The man behind the cult film Boyz n the Hood is reported to have passed away at the age of 51 on April 29.

However, various American media practitioners have taken to social media to rubbish reports of his death.

Hollywood Life reports that Singleton suffered a stroke on April 17. This news was confirmed by his family members to major global tabloid TMZ shortly after it happened.

The director, producer and writer had already checked himself into the hospital earlier that week due to “weakness in the leg,” and one of the relatives worried that John’s medical emergency was “triggered” by a recent flight back from Costa Rica.

In addition to his 1991 film Boyz n the Hood, Singleton has either directed, produced or wrote memorable films like Poetic Justice (1996), 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and Hustle & Flow (2005).

He has also worked on productions such as Empire (2015), American Crime Story (2016) and most recently the FX drama Snowfall.
