Twitter slams Papa Penny for ‘fat’ remarks about his wife’s body

The local musician and reality TV star has defended himself amid accusations of body shaming.

Social media was in uproar after a recent episode of his popular reality TV show, Papa Penny Ahee, where the legendary singer seemed to make suggestive remarks about his wife’s weight.

He admitted to putting on a few kilograms himself, before joking that his wife now weighed “300kg” and that opening doors for her had become difficult because of how big she had become. He also mentioned that he did not want a “Boom Boom” wife, suggesting that he only wanted a “Boom” wife instead.

Needless to say, social media users didn’t take to these comments very well

Many people took to Twitter to accuse the reality TV star of body shaming Mama Noni, even if the comments were made in a joking manner.

Some even claimed that they could see how the comments were affecting her:

Speaking to Tshisa Live, Papa Penny has addressed these claims head on and explained his stance

According to him, these comments were made in jest and there is an understanding between both he and Mama Noni. Furthermore, he claims that the sentiment of his comments were lost in translation as English is not his mother tongue:

“The problem is that people like English and they don’t understand it. I enjoy my wife, my wife enjoys me, and we enjoy each other, I’m doing comedy with my wife and it’s not scripted because it’s a reality show and she is enjoying it. Everyone must joke with their wives, I’m not a buffalo to my wife. I love her and she loves me”

Do you think that Papa Penny’s explanation is valid, or should he be held to task for his comments?
