We haven’t received money from tribute concert, Brown Dash’s baby mamas say

The money was paid to only one of his three children, as there was no money to send him to school.

Two of late kwaito singer Sphiwe ‘Brown Dash’ Mpamile’s three baby mamas have come out complaining that they had not received money from The Brown Dash Tribute Concert held at Ozone in Soweto last year.

Another one is scheduled for end of September this year at the Soweto Theatre, with artists such as Mshoza, Spikiri, Alaska and Jakarumba, among others, set to perform at the concert. The performers will reportedly be paid by the department of arts and culture, The Sowetan has reported.

Organiser Mahlomola Kekana said last year’s concert did not make money due to postponements, and organisers had to ask Computicket to refund those who had purchased the tickets.

He used R29 000 to pay for one of Brown Dash’s children’s college funds, but the other two baby mamas, who asked not to be named to protect their children, have complained that they did not see a cent from the concert.

“This event is staged to assist all his kids, but it was not all his kids who benefited. We don’t have a problem that they paid for one of the children, but we expected them to pay for all kids as promised and communicated to us,” said baby mama number three.

Kekana said he, however, thought it would only be right to use the money to pay for that one child’s college education, as he was just sitting at home due to lack of money. The concerts were done to help in paying for the children’s education and nothing else, he reportedly told the publication.

The women further accused Kekana of not including them in the planning, claiming they only heard about this year’s concert on Facebook, while they were included in last year’s planning.

They told the publication they wanted Kekana to put everything on paper.

However, the organiser said he did not tell the women about the concert, but asked Brown Dash’s mother Gladys Mpamile to update them.

He said he had, in fact, been inviting them to meetings, but they said they were busy.

The kwaito star died in 2012 at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto.
