Trompies member, Eugene Mthethwa, is being accused by his baby mama, who cannot be identified to protect the identity of the child, for allegedly being over R42 000 in arrears after he failed to pay maintenance for their 19-year-old daughter for three years.
According to the Sunday World, the mother of Eugene’s child told one of her friends that Mthethwa was ordered by the court about six years ago to pay R1 500 towards their daughter’s upbringing but has failed to do so, further alleging that instead Mthethwa, who lives in a R2.6-million Blue Valley Golf Estate villa in Midrand, Gauteng, blew his money on luxury cars, including a Range Rover, a Hummer and a Jeep Cherokee SRT.
The paper further states that Mthethwa confirmed that he has not paid the R1 500 a month the court ordered him to pay because he was paying inflated varsity fees for his daughter.
“Why should I pay R1 500 when I pay expensive varsity and residence fees for my daughter every month? I think that woman has financial problems and she shouldn’t run to the media to rubbish my name because that was an arrangement we made between the two of us. Now three years later she goes to court and runs to the media to talk to you guys about this,” he said.
“I only own the Hummer I bought when I was working for The Presidency. The Range Rover she is talking about was given to me by a friend as a token of appreciation for the job I have done for him. The other car (Jeep) was bought by my wife, it is not mine,” he added, disputing claims that he has bought three luxury cars.
According to the Sunday paper, a friend, who did not want to be named for fear of revenge said Mthethwa took advantage of the baby mama’s compassion after she chose not to file for a maintenance suit against him when they broke up when the child was just a year old.
“They broke up in 1996 because Eugene found her no longer attractive because he was meeting young beautiful things when Trompies were at the peak of their career,” the friend said, adding that Mthethwa stopped supporting the child in 2013.
