Tupac‘s mother Afeni Shakur dies aged 69

A family member called, reporting “a possible cardiac arrest” at Shakur’s Sausalito home at about 9.34pm on Monday.

Twitter has been mourning the passing of Afeni Shakur, the mother of one of hip-hop’s greatest influential and iconic artists Tupac. Shakur died on Monday at the age of 69, apparently from cardiac arrest.

Though she was better recognised for being the rapper’s mother, Shakur was also a Black Panther as a young adult and an activist and philanthropist later on in her life. According to reports about her death, deputies responded to a family member’s call reporting “a possible cardiac arrest” at Shakur’s Sausalito home at about 9.34pm on Monday, resulting in Shakur being taken to Marin General Hospital, where she later died at 10.28pm.

Shakur, who was also a CEO of Amaru Entertainment, Inc, a record and film production company, founded the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and assisted in forming Broadway musical Holler If Ya Hear Me in 2014, which featured some of Tupac’s music.

Tupac, who got shot on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and died from his injuries about six days later at the age of 25, once wrote about his darling mother in his 1995 hit Dear Mama, which remains one of his most loved and popular songs.

Rest in peace Afeni Shakur.
