Pretoria Arts Association: Where music and photography meet

The exhibition is a celebration of rapper N’veigh's debut album which will be available on the same day.

Established to promote Pretoria as an international tourist attraction with a thriving creative community, the GauFestival (Gauteng International Arts Festival) aims to grow again this year.

Few people realise that the Voortrekker Monument is the second-most visited tourist attraction in South Africa after the Cape Town Waterfront, and the GauFestival aims to showcase the country from September 20 to October 6.

Last year, the City of Tshwane became a sponsor and ticket sales sky rocketed to 42 000 for the events tied to the festival. This year, the venues and mediums celebrated are also set to expand.

The Pretoria Association of the Arts is already gearing up for an exciting year. Until March 3, it is hosting an exhibition of photographer Thabang Novita’s album art for Peanut Butter, an album by N’veigh.

The photographs are all shot in Mamelodi and celebrate the counter-culture tenor featured on the album.

N’veigh is a Mamelodi-born rapper, writer and performer. His recent extended-play record, No Pineapples on My Pizza, was released late last year to critical acclaim.

In addition to several singles, he has featured alongside high-profile acts like DJ Zan-D, Maggz, KiD X and Zano.

N’veigh also made his feature film debut on the urban thriller Nomayini, alongside long-time collaborator PdotO. The film aired on Mzansi Bioskop (DStv channel 164).

The exhibition is a celebration of his debut album which will be available on the same day.
