Ms Cosmo celebrates her independence

Nonqaba Rwaxa, or Ms Cosmo as she is known, is one of South Africa's most recognised female hip hop DJs. That doesn't mean she fits the conventional stereotype though.

“Being a hip hop DJ doesn’t mean that I have to wear baggy jeans and boots,” “I am a girlie girl and I like looking pretty,” she says.

The 25-year-old switched from a background in finance to DJing, courtesy of FUSE Academy, founded by pioneering DJ Zinhle.

She currently hosts 5FM’s Sunday night hip hop show, ‘The Stir-Up’, and is the only woman DJ on Channel O’s ‘The Bassment’.

The former YFM presenter feels that her success has hampered her dating life, Sunday World reports.

“I’ve been single since 2009. I don’t have time for a relationship right now, but I am emotionally ready for love.”

“I’ve tried dating guys my age who are not on my level and that didn’t work because of their egos. I’m stuck now because there are very few guys my age who are equally successful.”

“I can’t settle for somebody who won’t appreciate my independence.”
