Big Brother Africa launch cancelled after house fire

A fire has apparently stopped the Big Brother Africa Hotshots show from going live on Sunday.

According to a statement released on the website no one was injured in the fire at the house is based at the Sasani Studios in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

M-Net and Endemol are looking for an alternative Big Brother house, however due to the highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements they have stressed that an alternative is not immediately available.

“Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue,” the statement read.

Reports have suggested it was the secondary house, not the main house, that was struck by the fire. Speculation has been rife that the show may only be briefly postponed due to the plot meaning the show might be shot in one house instead of the two initial houses that were planned.

It is unclear as yet when Big Brother Africa Hotshots will launch.

This news comes less than 24 hours after it was announced that Rwanda and Sierra-Leone  will no longer be participating in this years Big Brother Africa show.

“Unfortunately, due to schedules and logistical constraints there was insufficient time to follow the necessary procedures in order to process the required travel documentation which has recently become a more complex procedure,” the statement read.
