Ayeye season two is happening

The news was confirmed by one of the show's former directors.

Fans of Mzansi Magic’s Ayeye found themselves overcome with excitement on Thursday morning when a Twitter user named @MacsMoti shared a video confirming that the show would finally be returning for a second season.

According to TVSA, Ayeye is a South African television drama series set in the heart of Johannesburg’s hottest urban neighbourhood, Maboneng.

The coming-of-age story followed the lives, loves, heartache, fears and dreams of three friends played by Thapelo Mokoena, Sthembiso “SK” Khoza and Mpho “Popps” Modikoane. The trio share a loft apartment and work as rockstar creatives at a hotshot Sandton advertising agency.

The show came to an abrupt end in 2015 and one of its producers, Kutlwano Ditsele, killed all hopes fans had of a season two when he shut down rumours of the show’s return every chance he could get.

Despite Ditsele’s insistence, fans continued to beg for the show’s return after they fell in love with its edgy and raunchy script.

Although the show was created and produced by Bomb Productions where Ditsele worked alongside the likes of Angus Gibson, Desireé Markgraaff and Teboho Mahlatsi, the video alludes to the fact that season two of Ayeye will be produced under Ditsele and Moleya’s new outfit, Seriti Films.

Seriti is responsible for Mzansi Magic dramas The Herd and The Imposter, as well as a number of television commercials, and it seems December and the early months of 2020 will be a busy time for them.

“We’re in pre-production to do a show for ShowMax which we shoot in December which is what we’re developing and writing at the moment, a ten-part series which is called Ayeye. Uhm, it’s [the] second season of a young group on individuals navigating life, setting up businesses and the challenges they face…” said Moleya during a recent talk he delivered to a group of students at an unidentified City Varsity campus.

One of Ayeye’s lead actors, SH Khoza, recently conveniently found himself available for the project after his character on the Mzansi Magic telenovela, The Queen was killed off this past week. When Khoza thanked his fans for their support when his final scene aired, a fan serendipitously suggested that she starts filming season two of Ayeye.
