Listeners react to the end of the Karima Brown show

She joined the station in 2017 as part of Primedia's effort to 'beef up on specialised political coverage'.

After spending weeks on hiatus, it has been confirmed that the Karima Brown show has come to an end. The slot will be replaced by Aubrey Masango who will now host a four-hour show between 8pm and midnight every weeknight.

The two-hour Karima Brown show began in late 2017 in the lead up to the ANC elective conference as part of Primedia’s effort to “beef up on specialised political coverage”.

“South Africa is highly politically charged and our audiences are showing an increased need for deeper understanding of the stories and issues making the headlines daily,” said 702 station manager Thabisile Mbete in a statement released at the time.

“Karima’s extensive experience covering and commentating on South African politics, as well as her ability to pull in the key individuals, make her an ideal host for this new show,” she added.

However, Brown has been off the air for weeks with Masango often standing in for her, which prompted listeners to take to social media with their questions and comments.

This week the station confirmed that they had revamped their evening and weekend lineup and as a result, Brown and weekend breakfast host Phemelo Motene would no longer be continuing with the station.

In addition to Masango’s new slot, Refiloe Mpakanyane will take over weekend breakfast between 6am and 10am on Saturdays and Sundays.
