SA magician gets his own show on Boomerang

The young street magician will share a magic tutorial at the end of each episode.

Boomerang has teamed up with South African magician Wian van den Berg to launch a brand new and exciting local show that promises to give viewers magical moments.

Launching on April 1, Wooala! is DStv channel Boomerang’s latest short-format show that celebrates young Africans’ sense of wonder and belief in magic.

Viewers are taken on a magical journey through the streets of Cape Town where Van den Berg uses simple, everyday objects to perform mind-tingling illusions, close-up hand magic, and innovative tricks.

The 23-year-old is known for his unique comedy style that he brings to his magic, showcasing this through social media uploads. The videos, with views logged all over the world, have led Van den Berg to become the biggest magician on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in the southern hemisphere.

Van den Berg is considered by many to be one of the best up-and-coming sleight of hand magicians in the world.

“I am so excited to be partnering with Boomerang on their new, local, magic show Wooala!, because so many fans across Africa will get to see the impossible happen, while having a laugh,” he says.

“Magic is my language. It is a way to connect with anyone anywhere in the world and now, Boomerang viewers get to experience these magical moments in their own homes. Watching the reaction I get from the audience, is why I do what I love,” he adds.

What’s more exciting is that the young street magician will not be keeping his cards too close to his chest as he shares a magic tutorial at the end of each episode.

The Wooala! Magic tutorials, as seen on each episode, will be available on Boomerang Africa’s YouTube channel from April 6, with a fresh tutorial made available for download every Saturday. Boomerang’s younger viewers will also be able to perform their very own magic tricks, using everyday items found in their homes.

“We are proud to present Wooala!, a show that we’ve worked on with local production company, Rapid Blue, to further our commitment in producing exclusive original content for our local DStv audience,” says Ariane Suveg, head of kids content Africa and programming director.

Wooala! is packaged to allow our young viewers to disconnect from their daily routine, giving them opportunity to escape to a world they believe exists but haven’t visited yet. We can’t wait to see our viewers’ response.”

  • Catch the exciting sneak peak of Wooala! in the special AbracadaBoom! stunt on Boomerang (DStv 301) on April 1 at 2.25pm.
  • Tune in from April 6 on Saturdays and Sundays at 9am to watch the full series on Wooala!.
