SA story being told by Australians in new big-budget movie.

Daniel Radcliffe and Sam Neill star in 'Escape from Pretoria'.

A truly South African story is currently being filmed as a big-budget movie, starring Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, by a team of Australian and British movie makers in Australia.

Escape From Pretoria is inspired by a real-life escape from the brutal Pretoria Maximum Security prison in South Africa 1979.

Tim Jenkin and his friend Stephen Lee were two white South Africans branded as “terrorists” and thrown in jail during apartheid in 1978 before conducting a real-life escape from the brutal Pretoria Maximum Security prison in South Africa 1979.

Media are describing the movie as being “highly anticipated” and say filming began at the Mitcham train station, in the suburb of Lower Mitcham, Adelaide, two weeks ago.

Jurassic Park star Sam Neill, 71, plays South African social campaigner and activist Denis Goldberg.

The film is based on the autobiography Escape from Pretoria written by Tim Jenkin himself.
