Cassper’s Tito Mboweni track makes international news

Who would've thought the new finance minister's appointment would give the artist a boost?

Musicians have covered a myriad of topics over the years – love, poverty, inequality, you name it – but how many songs do you know of that are named after a finance minister?

Cassper Nyovest is probably the only artist to create a song along these lines – his track from last year Tito Mboweni burned up iTunes on release. Now, thanks to Mboweni being named finance minister after Nhlanhla Nene’s resignation was accepted by President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday, Cassper’s song is getting quite a bit of attention. It’s even made CNN news.

Now admittedly, Tito Mboweni wasn’t the country’s finance minister when this track was first released, but who knows? Maybe Cassper could see further into the future than the rest of us. The track, though, is now trending on Twitter with some tweeps reposting the video (which you can watch below) and some in foreign countries reacting in disbelief that Tito Mboweni is actually a man’s name, rather than something Cassper made up because it sounded catchy.

Cassper for his part has responded with his typical modesty.
