Alan Sugar lands in hot water over racist tweet

Will the host of The Apprentice hear the words 'you're fired'?

The host of the British TV show The Apprentice Lord Alan Sugar came under fire yesterday after tweeting a picture of the Senegal football team with the caption, “I recognise these guys from the beach in Marbella”.

The Apprentice presenter took down the post after being pelted with accusations of racism from tons of Twitter.

“Just been reading the reaction to my funny tweet about the guy on the beach in Marbella,” Lord Sugar wrote. “Seems it has been interpreted in the wrong way as offensive by a few people.

“Frankly I can’t see that I think it’s funny. But I will pull it down if you insist.”

Lord Sugar may find his scribblings funny, but it seems he may be rather alone in his assessment. In the hours since he deleted his original tweet, the BBC Press Office has tweeted he’s apologised but Twitter is having none of it.

There have been calls for Lord Sugar to be dropped by the BBC altogether. While the Beeb has been silent about his future, UK bookies are actually taking bets on whether or not Lord Sugar will lose his job over this incident.

Yes, that’s right, the host of The Apprentice might hear the words, “you’re fired”.
