Jared Leto is getting his own Joker film

Jared Leto is set to star in and produce a standalone movie about the clown prince of crime

One of the many, many gripes fans had with the Suicide Squad movie back in 2016 was the fact that Jared Leto’s Joker got very little screen time.

This was a bit of a sore point for Leto himself, who told IGN that he was upset that lots of scenes he shot for the movie ended up on the cutting room floor.

Well it seems that Warner Bros and DC are about to set about righting this wrong as Variety reports Leto is set to reprise his role as the clown prince of crime in a standalone Joker movie. Sources have told the magazine that Leto will also act as executive producer and that the movie will expand on the world first seen in Suicide Squad.

Leto’s Joker movie, incidentally, is a separate entity to the Joker origin story movie that was reportedly greenlit last year, with Martin Scorsese producing and Tod Phillips (The Hangover) set to direct. That film wasn’t going to feature Leto as the producers apparently wanted a younger actor – a fact that Leto was also rather pissed off about.

Well, now he has his own Joker movie and is still involved with the Harley Quinn movie, which will star Margot Robbie as the Joker’s main squeeze. There’s no word yet on who will be penning or directing Leto’s Joker movie.
