Sun-El, Mafikizolo win at first night of SAMAs

The first night of the 24th South African Music Awards (Samas) saw Sun-El winning three awards for Akanamali, his hit single featuring Samthing Soweto.

The house hitmaker was not present to accept his awards.

Other winners included Joyous Celebration, who won two awards, for Best Selling DVD and Best Selling Album; Mafikizolo who came away with Best Engineered Album and rising hip-hop femme fatale Rouge who won Music Video of the Year for Arumtumtum.

Performers on the night included Chomee and Tresor; Shane Eagle and Ntando and Zoe Media with Thabsie and Tribute Birdie Mboweni.

Many musicians and attendees snubbed the first night of awards, which was not televised. The night was hosted by comedian Mpho Popps.

The SAMAs will be screened on Saturday on SABC1 at 20:00.
