Avengers: Infinity War becomes fastest film to make $1 billion

Disney is having a good year, with 2018 earnings jumping to $3 billion.

Proof, if any more was ever needed, that Marvel superhero films still rule at the box office, The Avengers: Infinity War has become the fastest film in history to make $1 billion globally.

The previous record holder in this category was Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

The latest instalment in Marvel’s world-conquering franchise took just 11 days to cruise past the $1bn mark, with box office receipts currently standing at $1.16 billion. This makes the film the 5th highest-earning superhero film of all time – and it has yet to open in China, where it’s expected to have a massive reception.

All of this is great news for Marvel’s parent company, Disney, which has seen its box office earnings for 2018 jump to $3 billion. This figure may go up significantly when Solo: A Star Wars Story goes on global release later this month.

Out of the 34 films that have surpassed $1 billion in gross earnings, 17 of them – more than half – are Walt Disney films. Ker-ching!
