WATCH: School prepares for reopening on 1 June

A student dressed in uniform is guided through the five steps to get to class.

In a video widely shared on Whatsapp, an Afrikaans school in Pretoria is showcasing its preparedness for back-to-school.

In it a senior person assumed to be either the principal or the teacher is seen taking a student through the steps for reopening on 1 June 2020.

A student dressed in uniform is guided through the five steps to get to class.

This includes washing of hands, taking of temperature, and the screening of the child, which includes standard questions such as whether the child has been in touch with anyone who has tested positive for the virus, plus if they have travelled. This each student will need to sign. Hands are then sanitised once again.

The pupil then walks through a booth where it appears the child is sanitised from head to toe with a spray.

Children with a temperature of more than 38 degrees will be sent to a “cooling off” area and retested after 10 minutes. If the temperature is still high, they will be placed in isolation in a class where the child’s parents will be called to collect the child from the school for a test.
