Warwick Wine Estate has taken top honours in this year’s Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, walking away with three awards including the gong for ‘Most Successful Producer Overall’.
The Stellenbosch winery also took home the awards for Best Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Blend for its Warwick Professor Black 2017, and Best Cabernet Franc for its 2015 Warwick Cabernet Franc.
The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show presented SA’s top wines, this year featuring 171 trophy, gold and silver medal winners which scored at least 80 points, awarded by a panel of judges and selected from over 900 wines.
The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show competition took place in Paarl over four days from April 30.
The 2018 judging panel, chaired by wine authority Michael Fridjhon, comprised three international and six local judges representing a collection of world-class expertise.
The international judges were Charles Chevallier (Group adviser for Domain Barons de Rothschild, France), Debra Meiburg MW (marketer and educator based in Hong Kong) and Turkish-born, UK-based Master Sommelier Isa Bal.
South African judges were Narina Cloete (winemaker at Blaauwklippen), Heidi Duminy CWM (Group marketing manager for Meridian Holdings), Christian Eedes (editor of winemag.co.za), Alexandra McFarlane (winemaker at Druk My Niet), Nkulu Mkhwanazi (wine educator and brand ambassador) and James Pietersen (SA portfolio manager for Wine Cellar).
