Two single mom best friends move in together to co-mother their kids
'We’re genuinely leaning on each other; when one of us has more capacity than the other, she tags in.'

In a Huffington Post piece, Ashley Simpo and her best friend Tia have been best friends for 10 years, and have recently decided to move in together to co-mother their three children.
Ashely is a mom of a 5-year-old boy, while Tia is a boy mom to a 13-year-old and a three-year-old.
After they both got out of relationships, Ashely looked for a place to move into with her son in New York City. The pricing burden was too overwhelming and this was frustrating for her. They shared this with each other, and they decided to merge their households. Ashley then moved into Tia’s three-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn with her son, and there was enough for her, and a shared space for her five-year-old son. The 13-year old has his own room.
The logistics worked out perfectly.
Two single working moms need support, as raising children can be quite challenging.
“Our home has two parents in it. Two parents who have agreed to be each other’s backup before deploying more expensive or inconvenient options,” Ashely says.
They don’t always have to ask other people for help and don’t have to use money to hire babysitters at all times.
They take turns with helping each other, and don’t even have to ask because they know what they need when they need it.
“I know it’s nearly impossible to do anything in the presence of a three-year-old,” said Ashely, and she can easily take over to give Tia some time to work.

Their arrangement has worked well, and it’s not like having a roommate with no children, who does not understand how loud and messy children can be. Tia and Ashely don’t have to apologise for their kids being kids because they both know the script all too well.
The boys are also growing up and learning together, which is a bonus because the decision is not only beneficial for the parents, but also the kids.
