T he 26th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards took place this week at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. The SAG awards honour the best achievement in television and film. The strong fashion and beauty theme was elegance and glamour. It’s been said that Old Hollywood glamour may have returned to the red carpet and those of us who love fashion are delighted about this.
Sultry Scarlet
Stunner of the night was actress Scarlet Johansson. Nominated for the Netflix movie Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, Johansson wore an Armani Prive gown, in a teal shade with a plunging neckline. Her hair slicked in a low bun, with minimal jewellery – diamond earrings added to smaller ear studs – and a beautiful bright coral matte lipstick with lightly sparkling gold shimmer eyeshadow. Johansson’s gown was cut low enough at the back reveal her tattoo, without looking cheap.
Modern mannequin
Second place goes to Michelle Williams, in a beautiful black gown. A winner on the night for best female actor in a miniseries in Fosse/Verdon, the pregnant actress wore an elegant Louis Vuitton gown. Her hair was pulled to the side in a bob. Her make-up was clean with a bright red lipstick and a classically lined cat eye.
Pixie power
In third place is Zoe Kravitz, who always makes the pixie-cut look chic. Kravitz took the classic route by adding long white gloves to her coral Oscar de la Renta shaded gown. Her make-up was peach, with a matte light coral lipstick that matched her gown.
Pastel princess
In fourth place is Netflix’s Dear White People actress Logan Browning, who wore a Jason Wu gown. The dress designer himself described the look as ethereal, and it certainly was. Browning kept the make-up clean with a highlighted warm shaded-eye in red and pinks. She wore light pink matte lipstick and stunning, dangling drop earrings. She wore her hair in a curl, slightly slicked back in loose, large cornrows. Cornrows appear to be really big this year and hopefully we will be seeing more natural plaited hairstyles on red carpets in the future.
Aqua accords
Orange is the New Black actress Madeline Brewer gets fifth place. Brewer graced the red carpet in an aqua Lhuillier, tulle layer gown. She added a touch of excitement with sheer aqua gloves in a look which slightly resembled Ariel from Disney’s The little Mermaid with her scarlet hair, pulled to the side, a nude eyeliner and coral matte lipstick. Brewer transforms elegantly with each award ceremony
