Here is a list of the top five party destinations from around the world that go all out to celebrate the new year in style.

These are listed in no particular order and have all been chosen for their ability to party hard.

New York

While Times Square is lit up all year round, it seems like it might hold a special glow on New Year’s Eve. There is one particular event called the Ball Drop.

Basically, a ball descends down a specially designed flagpole, beginning at 11:59 pm and rests at midnight to signal the start of the new year. It is a free-to-attend event as scores of people flock to the venue to join in on the revelry.

Rio de Janeiro

It’s the city of Samba, so naturally, there are parties happening all across town.

But Copacabana Beach is definitely the place to be with the massive fireworks displays, as everyone takes advantage of the warm weather on New Year’s Eve that the city is blessed with.

Speaking of a fireworks display, the one held in Sydney, Australia, at the harbour outside the Sydney Opera House every year on NYE is truly a sight to behold.

If street parties are your thing, then a trip to the Netherlands for NYE should definitely be on your bucket list.

Come 31 December, almost the entire city turns into a street party, as the bars and clubs around the precinct fill up and spill over onto the pavements and walkways.
