World’s first 17-inch foldable laptop showcased at CES 2022

In a world where computing is ubiquitous and everyone is always-on, always-mobile, and always moving across devices, ASUS’s new foldable laptop provides an immersive experience unlike any other.

ASUS showcased their latest lineup of innovations at the Incredible Unfolds, a CES 2022 virtual launch event, and the star of the show was the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED.

The Zenbook 17 Fold is the world’s first 17.3-inch foldable laptop, and features a “boundary-pushing design”, thanks to the PANTONE foldable OLED touchscreen.

The 2.5K touchscreen is where the magic happens: it folds in the middle to create two seamless 1920 x 1280 displays.

Couple the foldable screen with the full-size ErgoSense Bluetooth keyboard and touchpad, and you have a PC, a laptop, and a tablet all in one.

The device also features several new AI-powered features, as user-presence detection, an integrated colour sensor for automatic adjustment of screen brightness, and a 5MP webcam with noise reduction technology.

Power under the (foldable) hood

All of that is powered by the latest 12th Generation Intel Core i7 U-Series processors, as well as an Intel Iris Xe graphics card.

You’ll also find two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports which support fast charging of the 75Wh battery and connections to external displays.

It ships with Windows 11, supports Wi-Fi 6E, and has 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and 1TB of solid-state memory.

The only downside is that the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold isn’t available yet. You’ll have to wait until mid-2022. The price point will be revealed in due course.

CES 2022 a success despite Covid-19

The CES tech show in Las Vegas closed its 2022 edition on Friday, after pushing ahead with a significantly downsized gathering despite surging Covid-19 cases.

While industry behemoths like Amazon and Google stayed away due to the Covid-19 risk, more than 2,200 firms in attendance still pitched their hopes for the next big thing.

A French startup showcased a technology which detects the signals that zip between the brain and certain muscles – in order to use them to operate connected devices.

And no tech event would be complete without Boston Dynamics making an appearance.
