The City of Tshwane has warned residents to ignore a notice circulating on WhatsApp claiming that there are hundreds of vacancies available at the metropolitan municipality.
City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the message was a hoax as the city only advertised vacant posts on its job forum page on their website, www.tshwane.gov.za, and in newspapers.
The advert states there are 500 cleaning, 500 security, 15 receptionist, 15 switchboard operator and 100 driver messenger vacancies.
It says all applications must be handed in personally on June 7, 2017, at Tshwane House (corner Lilian Ngoyi and Madiba streets) between 8am and 3pm and that the public can contact “Mr Gerald Shingange” for more information.
“We urge the public to ignore the message as it is a scam. The city is appalled at the scammers who prey on the emotions of unsuspecting job seekers.”
Mashigo warned that those involved in peddling such false information faced arrest.
People should contact the Tshwane Metro Police Department on 082-891-8625 when they come across such “job advertisements”.
