Apple has released updated bug fixes for its operating systems on iPhones, iPads, Macs and iWatches.
Apple says these security fixes include important security updates and do not have new features, but are updates Apple electronic users will want to install.
With the new security fixes, iPhones and iPads will update to iOS and iPadOS 14.4.1, watchOS users will update to 7.3.2,and macOS Big Sur to 11.2.3. Your Apple electronic device’s operating systems can be updated today in the Settings of your Apple electronic device.
While the updates themselves do not specify what the issue exactly is, the Apple support site states says security updates have a bug fix which was an issue detected and reported by researchers at Google and Microsoft.
The issue was a memory corruption bug in WebKit, the engine that powers Apple’s Safari browsers. The bug was triggered by visiting malicious web pages containing code that could exploit the vulnerability of Apple’s operating systems.
If the code was exploited by attackers, they could run malicious code on the affected Apple device. Fortunately, there are no known instances of the bug being exploited. Users of older versions of macOS can install the latest version of Safari, bumping the version to 14.0.3.
