Software engineer Anthony Morris has built a Chrome extension that will remind users of their mortality as they browse their favourite social media platforms. The extension, currently supported on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, aims to remind you to switch off your computer, get up and live life outside social media.
“Do you ever find yourself spending too much time on social media? Me too, so I made a Chrome Extension to remind me just how little time I have. I’ve been spending too much time on Twitter lately. Instead of blocking it completely, I decided to build a Chrome Extension to help me spend less time there,” said Morris.
Morris said the extension reminded users just how little time they had left by replacing website logos with a skull logo and countdown to their final resting place.
“Being reminded of our transience allows us [to] reflect on the things that we spend our time doing. Time is the only thing we cannot get back, how do you want to spend your time?”
The extension has received good reviews so far.
