Tabitha Simmons has collaborated with TOMS to create a collection of fashion friendly footwear.
The designer has offered a stylish update to the iconic canvas slip-on-shoe to create a collection that is both fashionable and ethical in conjunction with the brand’s signature ‘one for one’ selling policy which sees shoes donated to a child in need for every pair sold.
Tabitha teamed up with TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie over a year ago after a pal suggested they forge a working relationship, and she recently witnessed the impact the shoes have on children in need during a trip to Honduras.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, she recalled: “The first school we visited, we were greeted with so much excitement and happiness; all these children couldn’t wait to get their TOMS shoes. They made us feel so welcome. It was very humbling and I was really lucky to witness that.”
Blake also claims the simplicity of the shoe which is favoured by actress Sienna Miller has helped it to remain a firm favourite.
He explained: “Our original, classic shoe that Tabitha’s done such a great job with is so simple. I think that’s the reason this has been able to, at least for seven years, stay relevant.”
The brand has become a worldwide success and recently hit 10 million pairs of TOMS given to children in need.
