Smeg appliances have become a status symbol among influencers and those who want to impress. People would be happy to know Smeg finally has launched its flagship store in South Africa.
Smeg appliances have always had a section in many appliance stores, however, not their own dedicated store. The luxury Italian brand’s colours and retro look has gained huge admiration.
However, the price tags meant more often than not, people continue to admire Smeg from afar.
Appliance chain store, Hirsch’s Homestore opened the first Smeg store in SA earlier this month at The Constantia Village in Cape Town.
The earthy dark natural tones of the store’s interior design isn’t the only thing that grabbed the attention. The most talked-about topic on social media is the the Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) branded fridge, costing a hefty R1.3 million.
The fridge comes with an accompanying toaster that costs R12,300, Business Insider reported, and there is a full Dolce & Gabbana range in the store.

The D&G range, called “Sicily is my love”, includes a kettle (R10,500), blender (R14,000), citrus juicer, stand mixer, four-slice toaster (R12,300) and espresso coffee machine costing R26,000.
The collection is made in Italy, all the products are made on an industrial scale and have been reproduced of “hand-painted prototypes created by master Sicilian artists and craftsmen”, according to the website.
The symbols on the D&G collection are associated with the Italian region’s fresh produce, such as their citrus, gold lemons, prickly pears and red cherries. The symbols are also found in typical Sicilian decorations framed in triangular motifs.
A standard retro Smeg fridge (60cm full fridge) starts from R26,999.
