If you are struggling with how to show us what parenthood looks like to you, for Parenty’s Photography Competition (click for more information), sponsored by Canon South Africa, then maybe some of the images captured by photographer Danielle Guenther will inspire you.
Guenther is a lifestyle photographer who has like so many others taken 1000s and 1000s of photographs capturing the romance and beauty of parenthood – maternity shoots with flower crowns, newborn shoots with tiny little feet wrapped in lace and family shoots dressed in matching outfits romping in a pine tree forest.
But after a shoot took a turn for the crazy, she decided to capture the bad with the good – “the candid moments of chaos that all parents experience”.
“Capture the moment, because in the end, all we have are the memories…”
Danielle Sapienza (Danielle Guenther Photography)
“Parenthood is messy, but wow, the unflattering side can still be so beautiful,” said Guenther in an interview with The Huffington Post. After sharing a few of the not-so-perfect images on social media she began receiving requests from parents who wanted to take pictures of the reality of parenthood.
This led to her creating more than one photo series dedicated to capturing the messy side of parenthood – “Best Case Scenario” and “What The BUMP!?“. Oh, and her captions are PURE GOLD!
