Organising a wedding is like having a second job – study

Forty percent of respondents believe organising a wedding now is harder than it was 20 years ago.

A full 39% of people in a recent study described planning a wedding as being as difficult as having a second job.

This is unsurprising given that the researchers also discovered the average couple would dedicate more than nine hours to the laborious task of whittling down their guest list, six hours to picking the perfect flower arrangement for the venue, and 11 hours looking in bridal shops for dresses.

But the work doesn’t end there as, according to the study, which was commissioned by Virgin Holidays, a further eight hours were spent researching and speaking to caterers who might be suitable for the big day, and nine hours went to deciding where to go for the honeymoon.

Finalising the guest list is considered the most stressful aspect of the process, followed by finding the perfect wedding dress and organising the catering, according to the OnePoll study, with most couples choosing to secure the venue first.

Yvonne Bakouris, who has been a wedding planner at Virgin Holidays for 20 years, said: “Pinterest and Instagram have changed the wedding planning process immensely.

“People are going onto these sites and social media looking for ideas for weddings and seeing larger, bolder, more challenging events,” she explained.

Forty percent of respondents explained that this was not a good thing, as they believed weddings were significantly harder to plan now than they were 20 years ago.
