How much you can expect to pay on a return trip to the Seychelles

It is advisable to always fly direct to the islands when travelling with Air Seychelles – even if you have to pay a premium. The over-40-year-old national airline of the Republic of Seychelles recently introduced a new fuel-efficient A320neo aircraft to service their existing route between Johannesburg and the main island of Mahe. The plane is named Veuve (the Seychelles Paradise Flycatcher, an endangered bird unique to the archipelago). It features 168 seats, 12 of which are Business Class.

Chief executive officer of Air Seychelles Remco Althuis said: “South Africa remains a very important market for Air Seychelles and with the increased capacity of the A320neo, we are excited to grow the number of visitors on the route to further support the continued growth of tourism to the island.”

According to Joep Ellers, Airbus Head of Airline Marketing Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa: “The A320neo is the world’s most advanced and fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft.”

During the August to November season, the cost of an economy class ticket on a return trip is about R5,000, give or take R500, while one can expect to pay north of R11,000 for a business class seat. Air Seychelles currently operates daily services between Seychelles and Johannesburg.

Thanks to Air Seychelles’ codeshare partner, South African Airways, travellers can book their trip up to four cities beyond Johannesburg which include Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town.
