Akon to have his own city in Senegal called ‘Akon City’

Akon says he plans to unlock the continent's potential as it has the most natural resources.

Senegalese-American singer Akon has announced that he has finalised an agreement to build his own city to be named Akon City in Senegal. The city will also have its own cryptocurrency ‘Akoin’.

“The African continent has 15% of the world’s population. It is the most valuable region in the world in terms of under and above ground resources. It has 8% of the world’s natural gas reserves: 45 countries on the continent have oil reserves. It has 57% of the world’s cobalt, 47% of its diamonds, 49% of its manganese, 31% of its phosphate and 21% of its gold. Moreover, the continent has a tremendous potential for hydroelectric power, solar energy and geothermal energy.

“The Akoin Ecosystem unlocks the potential of the world’s largest emerging economy through the creation of a trusted cryptocurrency with a vision to stimulate and innovate, revenue-generating opportunities that support and empower youth entrepreneurship, economic stability, and growth across Africa and the world,” says Akon on his website.

He shared pictures of himself with Senegalese officials during the signing.

“Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” he said.
