Plane forced to land after fire in first class

The culprit is believed to be a charging phone.

A Virgin Atlantic flight headed to London from New York was forced to make an emergency landing soon after take off, when a fire broke out in the first class cabin. The culprit is suspected to be a charging phone, which allegedly caused a short circuit.

Passengers were forced to flee the plane after it had landed at Boston Logan International aiport, but only after firefighters had come on board to inspect, and put out the fire.

One passenger, Cory Tanner, told Daily Mail that “Everyone could smell the smoke but was not told what the problem was until we landed. Once we landed all we were told was, there is a fire in first class”.

“Having to sit here in a smokey cabin while we wait for firefighters to board and check things out isn’t great… Shouldn’t the priority be to get everyone off the plane first?” he said adding, “Was a good hour breathing in the electrical fire.”

Virgin themselves disagreed with an official statement declaring, “The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we are currently investigating to fully understand the circumstances … We’d like to thank our customers for their patience as we work with them to provide local accommodation or to rebook alternative flights to their final destination.”

All 217 passengers and crew on board were unharmed.
