Uber offers unique submarine rides
The ride-sharing service will, for a short time, be doing trips to the Great Barrier Reef.
Australians will soon be getting a unique new addition to the suite of services offered by Uber in their country. In order to raise awareness around sustainable travels and the environmental damage caused by not adopting these techniques, the ride-sharing site will be offering submarine trips out to the Great Barrier Reef.
Citizens in Queensland will be able to catch one of twenty “ScUber” trips in a piloted battery-powered submarine out to the reef and around the corals. The trips will cost Aus$1,500 (R14 900) per person and will take an hour each.
Travelling at twenty metres below sea level up to two passengers will be taken on a designated tour of the world heritage site.
Susan Anderson, general manager for Uber Australia and New Zealand, said the company was committed to encouraging ride-sharing to make “conscious behaviour changes” to travel in more efficient and sustainable ways and mentioned that the reef is the perfect destination for such a trip as it has been devastated by environmental pressures.
The ScUber booking also includes a helicopter ride to the submarine’s dive location.
