“We’re most proud of how it has grown throughout Africa and internationally in relation to the spectrum of music and attendees. Initially the festival was created only for the locals of Vic Falls but has grown year on year,” event organizer, Charlotte Kanter, told The Citizen.
The organisers hold the perspective that the Vic Falls Carnival cultivates a culture that brings the whole world together for the love of nature and music.
“Due to the uniqueness of the festival being at one of the Seven Wonders of the world, in such a beautiful national heritage park, it has become a destination event that draws an international audience to Vic Falls,” said Kanter.
In terms of attendants, the event pulls a 70% local and 30% foreign attendant split.
While most families worry about the safety of taking their children to adventurous holiday events, the carnival caters for all generations. “This festival is open to all ages, families, an older generation and a younger market. Whether you want to spend your days sipping a Jameson on the banks of the Zambezi or bungee off the Vic Falls bridge there is something for everyone,” adds Charlotte.

With all the activities central to the area and shuttles to and from it, private transport is unnecessary. “Majority of our attendees fly or take overlanders into the venue and do not have their own cars. Vic Falls itself is quite small and we have regular shuttles running throughout the festival so there is no need for private transport,” Charlotte adds.
The artists are the stars of the show, and this carnival prides itself on a stellar lineup every year.
When speaking about the most popular artists to have performed at the carnival, Kanter said: “Each artist appeals to a different section of attendees, but while Oliver Mtukudzi has played many times and is definitely a very loved performer, Goldfish was a huge hit among the younger audience and Judgement Yard always gets the locals on their feet screaming for more.”
This year’s music lineup features Mango Groove, Goodluck, Mokoomba and Jason Le Roux, among others.
