Think about it for a minute. Do you know whether you are serving yourself more food than your body actually requires? Is your portion size too big?
Many people seem to be unaware of just how big a portion size should be. As a little test, try the following: Pour or serve yourself what you think is one serving of food (it could be fruit, nuts, cereal, yoghurt or any other food). Thereafter, measure the food you have taken against what the recommended amount is – you can find these details on the food label of the product.
Surprisingly, a high percentage of people tend to serve themselves much more than the serving size on the food product suggests. Note that this often happens when buying take-aways or dining at restaurants as well. Consuming more than you actually need can lead to overeating and weight gain in the long term, especially if done on a regular basis.
Be wise
So what can you do to take control of the situation? Ensure that you know just how much a serving size is (a rough estimate should be OK!) and when presented with more food, consider saving the remainder for your next meal.
