Toronto-based Elaine Mokk, 18, shows off her acne-riddled, blotchy complexion on the YouTube video. She proceeds to show the viewers her clever make-up tricks that she uses to conceal the pockmarks and pimples.
Mokk has shared her painful battle with the embarrassing affliction over a series of blogs and videos and explains she posted this one because her blog followers wanted to see how she did her make-up.
The video has attracted over six million views to date.
Mokk, who is being treated by a doctor and is currently on the drug Accutane, explains that she just wanted to document her experiences and feelings. I want to share my experience with everyone because I know acne affects a lot of us and I’m not alone.”
‘When I’m talking to someone I can see their eyes travelling on my face and then it just makes me feel really sad and I really want to cry sometimes. It makes me so insecure,” she said.
The video shows step-by-step the lengthy process she has perfected to help conceal her acne. A final shot in the beauty tutorial shows Mokk complete with eye make-up and lipstick – her acne is no longer visible.
Since uploading the clip, she says her skin has cleared up considerably thanks to a combination of the anti-acne drug and the birth control pill she was put on.
