Don’t try this at home: This sex position can fracture your penis
Even though the penis is boneless, you can 'break it', especially if things go south while you and your partner are in the throes of passion.

Sex is supposed to be fun and experimental. Trying out new things with your partner can also be very erotic and help spice things up in the bedroom, but there are some things that are best left to the imagination.

Dr Karan Rajan, a NHS surgical doctor, recently took to the popular social media platform TikTok to warn sexually active men and women about a certain sex position, saying that it’s the most dangerous, according to science.
No, it’s not something from the missing pages of an ancient Kama Sutra book. It’s a position we’re all very familiar with, clearly not having realised just how dangerous it could be should your rhythm not be in sync with your partner’s.
Rajan says the reverse cowgirl position is responsible for 50% of penile fractures.
“If there is any erratic thrusting and the two parties are not in sync, it could lead to the male jabberwocky slipping out and being crushed by the female pubic bone.”

You’re probably scratching your head at this point, wondering how one breaks a penis if its boneless? Rajan explains that a fracture is actually a tear to the tunica albuginea.
“This is a rubbery sheath of tissue that allows the penis to enlarge in width and length during an erection.”

According to Mayo Clinic, the penis is engorged with blood during an erection, filling two cylinders.
“If an engorged penis is bent suddenly or forcefully, the trauma can rupture the outer lining of the two cylinders. This can result in a penis fracture.”
If you’re familiar with the reverse cowgirl position, perhaps you have previously had an unfortunate experience, without long-lasting injuries.
If it’s something you haven’t tried before, and are thinking about, these are the signs of a “broken penis” you should look out for should a mishap occur:
- If you hear a popping or cracking sound while you and your partner are in the throes of passion, abort mission and make sure that everything is in working order down there.
- Immediate pain in your penis after a thrust goes wrong should also raise a red flag.
- If your erection seems to immediately disappear seconds after a wrong landing, it might be time to head to the hospital.
- If your penis starts to discolour, there could be bleeding underneath the skin, and you really should get it checked out.
If you suspect that your penis is fractured, don’t be embarrassed to go to the hospital. If left untreated, a penis fracture can result in a curved penis and even erectile dysfunction.
