According to a new study published in The Lancet medical journal, childhood obesity has grown tenfold since 1975.
Here are some things that you can do to help prevent childhood obesity.
Ensure that you prepare a healthy lunch for your child to take to school. Ideally it should be a balanced meal and should include fruit. Avoid giving your child sweet treats on a daily basis with their lunch.
Provide your child with a suitable portion size of food. Remember that most takeaways are often oversized so pay closer attention when buying food for your child too.
Provide your child with adequate opportunities to engage in outdoor physical activities. You do not need any special equipment, just a little time to spare for him or her. Go for a walk on the beach, throw a frisbee to one another or simply kick a ball. Try to include some vigorous activities as well.
Consider limiting activities that seem to encourage sedentary behaviour. This may include watching television, playing video games, etc.
Always consult your child’s doctor if you are concerned about your child’s weight.
