How asthma can turn deadly

Asthma impacts millions of people around the world, but it can be deadly in some cases.


The tragic passing of 13-year-old Broadway star Laurel Griggs is a reminder of how severe asthma can be.

More than 26 million people in the US have asthma – 6 million of them are children.

A report by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) found that South Africa has the world’s fourth highest asthma death rate among five to 35-year-olds.

Of the estimated 3.9 million South Africans with asthma, 1.5% die of this condition annually.
