The sad extent of suicides in South Africa alone is alarming.
In its recent report, the World Health Organisation (WHO) states that suicide is the second leading cause of death in SA. The WHO study further mentions that 11.6% of every 100 000 people in SA commit suicide.
Beautiful Scar founder Rethabile Lechela has decided to take the cause head-on and is doing something about it.
Lechela has created a platform where ordinary South Africans share their extraordinary life stories. The platforms she has created are on YouTube and through a series of events.
She feels that the disturbing suicide figures indicate that more prevention and intervention measures need to be put in place.
“What these figures also show is that life can get incredibly difficult for most people,” Lechela said.
“Apart from the facts stated, I know the realities of a hard-knock life, first hand: growing up in the area of Boksburg, under immense poverty, being homeless, losing my mother and having to bury her with my first salary, getting married and divorced before the age of 30.”
She organises events where people with inspirational true life stories are given a platform.
Beautiful Scar is an initiative seeking to help people understand it is okay to fail at business, go through a divorce, lose assets and start afresh.
