Here are some tricks to get rid of that horrible headache next time it flares up.
1. For a migraine, place a cold pack on your forehead or take a cold shower to lessen the pain. Keep the compress on your head for 15 minutes, then take a break for 15 minutes, explain experts.
2. For a tension headache, place a heating pad on your neck or the back of your head.
3. Let your hair down immediately – a tight ponytail could cause a headache, or make it worse.
4. Switch off the lights – cellphone, laptop, and bedroom. Get into a dark room or put on sunglasses.
5. Spit out your gum – it can hurt not just your jaw, but your head as well.
6. Stop chewing your nails, lips, the inside or your cheeks, or handy objects like pens. And experts add if you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist for a mouth guard.
7. Take meds in moderation – chat to your doctor about this beforehand if you are a migraine sufferer.
