5 water hacks that can improve your health

A few weeks ago, the Department of Water and Sanitation urged South Africans to use water sparingly during the upcoming winter months.

Parts of the country may run dry if the precious resource is used negligently.

Water is an essential part of anyone’s health, so here are some water hacks to help you get healthier.

1. Use water as part of your detox or weight loss plan

The best recipe for daily detox and for weight loss is 2L of water, one medium cucumber, one lemon, 12 mint leaves. Store in the fridge and drink when you need to.

2. Best times to drink water

  • Drinking two glasses of water after you wake up helps activate internal organs.
  • One glass of water 30 minutes before a meal can help with digestion.
  • One glass of water before you take a shower can help lower blood pressure.
  • One glass of water before going to bed can help you to avoid a stroke or heart attack.

3. Use water as your burst of energy in the mornings

If you generally feel groggy with low in energy every morning, the cold water trick could work for you. Crank up the cold water in the shower for a few minutes before you turn it hot.

If that’s too much for you, splash your face with cold water. Experts say that this brief exposure to cold water can invigorate you and help you snap out of that morning fog.

4. Lemon water is the great detoxifier

Lemon water is known to clean out toxins in your body and your skin. When you get rid of toxic waste in your system, your skin is the first to show it.

Always keep a bottle of lemon water at home, work or school.

5. Want to get rid of a stubborn pimple?

Run an earbud under very hot water for a few seconds then apply pressure on the pesky zit. This will open the pores and it will pop. It’s an easier and healthier way than trying to do it with your fingers.
