Ernest Hemingway once said: “I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I’m awake, you know?”
A lot of people can attest to this feeling, so why jeopardise your sleep when it sometimes gives you the best comfort in life?
Sleeping properly can be immensely beneficial to your health and lifestyle no matter what age you are. Try some of these hacks:
If you do five minutes of stretching before you go to bed your muscles will be instantly more relaxed. This will make it easier to find a comfortable position when you sleep. This can greatly reduce the tossing and turning some people endure during sleep.
Anxiety, stress and depression can be major contributors to lack of sleep or insomnia. Some people drink a glass of milk to try to help them sleep, others swear by a glass of lemon and honey water before bedtime. This is known to drastically improve sleep.
For whatever reason, there comes a time in life when you have to pull an all-nighter. If this is the case, try a few 20-minute power naps in between especially just before the sun comes up. Having a power nap before the sun comes up will reset your body and you might have a better chance of surviving the next day.
Listening to your favourite song just before you got to bed can greatly enhance your mood for the next day and also help you sleep better. If your music sounds too distracting, meditative sounds like ocean waves, rain and birds chirping could help you get into sleep mode easily.
If you want to improve your sleep cycle, stop eating 14-16 hours before you intend to wake up. Once you start eating again, your internal clock will reset telling your body it’s the start of a new day.
