A healthy digestion is dependent upon many things. Here are a few simple and easy things that you can do to help promote a healthy digestion.
Ensure that you are well hydrated by consuming an adequate amount of water on a daily basis. This will help to promote digestion and also lower the risk of constipation.
Cut down on high sugar, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages and opt for water instead.
Many foods also contain water so it will be well worth your while to stock up on these foods. These foods include fruits and vegetables that are high in water, such as melons, cucumbers, tomatoes and grapefruit.
Avoid consuming junk and highly processed or refined foods. These foods tend to have a low nutritional value and usually contain preservatives, flavourants and possible other additives.
Furthermore, many foods containing artificial ingredients can lead to digestive problems including bloating.
Opt for healthy foods instead as they will offer a much better nutrition content.
Purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats that have not been processed. Enjoy the tastes and flavours of these foods (cooked and/or uncooked if applicable) and reap the health benefits that they have to offer.
Fibre is probably the most important nutrient that aids a healthy digestive process. It helps food to pass easily through the digestive tract by promoting smooth bowel movements and preventing constipation.
Both soluble as well as insoluble fibre play a role in this regard.
Soluble fibre can be found in nuts, seeds, oat bran and legumes. Good sources of insoluble fibre include vegetables, wheat bran as well as whole grains.
