Wines of the Week: Our choice of Viognier
In the late 1960's only 40 hectares of Viognier, a Rhone Valley varietal remained in the world. Thankfully it has enjoyed a global renaissance and South Africa is producing some spectacular examples.

The wines featured here are chosen according to high point scored and 4 or 5 star value for money. In other words, for the price that you pay for the quality which is in the bottle, you will be well pleased with your purchase. Wines with a five star value offer outstanding quality for the price, four star offer very good quality for the price while a one star value, well, it’s your choice.
2012 Lynx Viognier
Green flecked pale straw. Perfumed, faintly herbal aromas fresh and edgy, rather than over blown delicate savoury spice on the palate bright and particularly striking on the finish.

2010 KWV The Mentors Viognier
Good texture and spice, not quite peachy, oak evident, perfumed, some green notes hold it together – oak should fall off and acidity will integrate better .

2012 Saronsberg Viognier
Green tinged pale gold. Delicately but profoundly fragrant, light savoury peachy spice, fresh and lingering.
